Water & Sewer Services

The City of Earlville provides water and sewer services. Residential, commercial and industrial accounts are billed on a monthly basis. The following is an overview of the billing cycle and other information pertaining to the City utility bills.

Your meter is read once a month by a City of Earlville employee using a handheld electronic radio reader. When the handheld radio reader passes your meter it downloads your water usage into the handheld reader. The handheld reader measures use in even thousand gallon increments. Therefore, if your meter reads 58,895 gallons, the handheld reader records the reading as 58,000. The additional 895 gallons will be billed once your water consumption reaches the next thousand gallons or, in this example, 59,000 gallons. Your meter is read on the 15th of the month unless the 15th is on a weekend, in which case it is read as close to the 15th as possible. An "A" next to the reading on your utility bill stands for "Actual Read". An "E" stands for "Estimated Read". Estimating is only used in exceptional circumstances when the meter has not been read. Estimates are based on the average of your previous usage. Your estimated usage is deducted from the actual usage on your next billing and you are only billed for the difference.

Utility bills are calculated monthly for usage from the 15th of the month to the 15th of the following month. Bills are mailed out around the 20th of the month and are due the 15th of the following month. A late fee of 20% on water and sewer charges is assessed if payment is not received at City Hall by the 15th of the month. Delinquent notices are sent to all customers who have not paid their bill by the 15th of the month. The delinquent notice will show the due date and balance due to avoid disconnection. Any account not paid by the date shown will be disconnected and the $50.00 reconnect fee along with the delinquent charges must be paid before service can be restored.
